The construction project of Someron Koirametsä is in full swing
Here are the latest updates on the construction project of Someron Koirametsä! We want to share with you the recent progress in the dog forest’s construction and provide an update on the current phase of the project. Read also our earlier post to learn how carefully we considered the location before the construction of the dog forest even began.
We’ve had a very eventful spring while building Someron Koirametsä. We started by getting to know the forest and its terrain more closely as soon as the snow melted. We walked around the dog forest, searching for a suitable route for the fence.
In the valley at the back, which we named Sammallaakso, Moss Valley, there were several dangerously cross-fallen trees. While fallen logs make great natural obstacles for dogs, this hazardous pile of logs had to be cleared before we could even start building the fence. All the windfallen trees that were not left in the forest as natural obstacles have since been utilized in the dog forest structures, including the gate, barbecue hut, picnic table, and benches.
Fence construction
While building the fence, we found rock, rock, and even more rock in the terrain. In many places, the posts sank into the ground only a few centimeters, forcing us to temporarily remove the soil and drill holes in the rock for the posts. Since we did everything ourselves and did not bring massive machinery into the forest for the fence construction, we managed to erect the fence without causing significant damage to the forest floor. The fence mesh we ordered was only available in small 25-meter rolls, but these rolls were surprisingly easy to handle with the self-built decoiler. After a few rolls, tightening and securing the mesh became second nature.
The most exciting moment in the dog forest construction project
Perhaps the most exciting and eagerly anticipated moment in the construction project was when the fence was nearly finished, and we could bring our own dogs to test the dog forest for the first time. The joy our dogs felt while frolicking freely in the forest is a memory we will cherish forever. We hope you get to experience a similar moment when you bring your dog to Someron Koirametsä for the first time. We will open the dog forest booking calendar for visitors as soon as possible. Stay tuned!
